Manage Your Workforce So Your Workforce Doesn’t Manage You

Fall is a great time of year to evaluate your operations and determine if your policies and procedures are working, need a few tweaks or are destined for a complete overhaul.  Included below are three easy fixes to gain time and momentum. Bottom Line: Assign actions, document those actions and report on those actions to ensure your people are up to date and your dealership is protected.

1.  Streamline Orientation
Busy dealers and managers can streamline orientation by leveraging technology. In switching to a paperless system, dealerships can put their entire employee handbook along with various policies, forms and trainings online. Each of these items, including policies and procedures, can be assigned, reviewed and then completed by the newly hired employee via electronic signoff. All of the completed and non completed items can be tracked online via detailed reporting, cutting down on inefficiencies and allowing department heads to know the orientation status of each and every newly hired employee.

2.  Automate Trainings
Education and training is invaluable. Historically training takes a lot time, requires management involvement and is expensive. Workforce management systems allow for trainings to be distributed and completed online. Employees can easily take trainings from any computer, in any department at any location. Managers can set due dates for the trainings to be completed by and can even set a yearly reminder for those that must retake trainings annually. Employees are notified via email what they need to do and once completed everything is electronically documented so that management can know the status of every department with the click of a button.

3.  Measure your Success
Use available reports to capture and track the various completed and non completed activities such as required policies, forms and trainings for each employee. These reports will allow management to immediately learn the status of every department enabling them to focus their attention on areas of concern so that they can proactively prevent liabilities.
