How to Prepare for a DOL Audit
Here is a short checklist of best practices to work on to make sure your business is in order when investigators show up at your door.
As always, your best defense is to comply with the FLSA BEFORE an investigation arises.
-
Closely evaluate which of your employees are exempt and which are not (consider partial exemptions).
-
Maintain current information on employee job duties.
-
Audit the accuracy of your time records.
-
Develop and enforce policies designed to limit off-the-clock work.
-
Determine whether you make any deductions that “cut in” to minimum wage or overtime obligations.
-
Evaluate whether there are currently any "salary basis" problems.
The above is an excerpt from Compli’s webinar “DOL Audits – How to Prepare for the Unexpected,” with guest speaker Timothy Scott, Partner at Fisher & Phillips, LLP. Click Here to view webinar.
