Group 1: New Legal Requirements
Group 1 Automotive is faced with the challenge of managing best practices, risk and exposure across 140 locations throughout the United States. Historically, each new legal requirement resulted in an extensive and time consuming effort to manage. With the most recent Red Flags requirements, Group 1 leveraged its investment in the Compli system to raapidly distribute its Red Flags Program, Policies, Trainings, Incident Report Forms and could monitor compliance real-time centrally with clear dashboard reports.
"Within two weeks of the program rollout, we obtained 98% compliance with all mandatory Red Flags compliance material and were able to print a detailed report summarizing this activity for our Board of Director’s Meeting. That is a level of effi ciency and clarity we had never been able to accomplish with paper based processes."
– Brooks O’Hara, VP HR
Carr Automotive Group: New Hire and Orientation & Ongoing Employee Training
Carr Automotive Group is an Oregon dealership with approximately 270 employees. Upon hire, all new employees are immediately introduced to Carr’s "uncompromising expectation of honesty and integrity" through their orientation process on Compli. Employees review their new hire paperwork, sign critical employment policies, and received mandatory training as part of their indoctrination to the organization. On an ongoing basis, trainings like Sexual Harassment, OFAC, Red Flags, 8300, Sales and F&I, and other critical courses are automatically delivered as they become due on the anniversary date of hire for all employees – ensuring immediate compliance. Carr estimates that by utilizing Compli for its routine new hire orientation, along with regular ongoing training for all employees, the organization saves $120 per employee per year when compared to its previous paperbased, manual approach.
"Leveraging Compli with our new hires allows for us to immediately communicate our high expectations and values. On an ongoing basis we can electronically deliver and verify all critical compliance trainings have been completed and we have easy access at all times to all of our personnel documentation. It also goes without saying that the days of a employees holding a company hostage for discrimination, harassment, etc. via legalized extortion has gone by the wayside. Not only have issues dwindled to nearly zero, but also plaintiffs lawyers are reluctant to take on any case once they see how much documentation we have in Compli."
– Brad Preble, VP Operations
Mossy Automotive Group: Insurance & Claims
Mossy Automotive Group has aggressively internalized its approach to Safety and Environmental risks across its 8 dealerships. The executive team at Mossy felt confident that it could reduce the frequency and severity of claims if it could better communicate the safety program and create improved accountability. Under the oversight of an appointed Compliance & Safety Manager and by using Compli to regularly reinforce safety policies and procedures, trainings and safety meetings reminders and certificates, they were able to reduce their outside compliance consulting costs to a once a year model while improving overall compliance. Even more importantly, the Mossy organization significantly decreased claims in 2008 generating an estimated savings of over 50% (in excess of $150,000) when compared to the prior four year average.
"By utilizing Compli and increasing accountability internally for our EH&S program, we were able to significantly improve our safety oversight and reduce our Workers Compensation costs. Anytime we can better protect our employees and impact the bottom line it’s a clear win."
– Gary Roehm, Compliance and Safety Manger
Phil Smith Management: Ongoing Paper- Based Compliance Documentation & Activities
Phil Smith Management has approximately 500+ employees in 8 dealerships located in Florida. Using Compli, they have automated the distribution of key compliance best practice and personnel material including policies and guidelines, new hire and separation processing, employee counseling, time off requests, GLBA, OFAC, Money Laundering and the complex Red Flags compliance program. With Compli they have processed over 34,000 documents, trainings and forms that would otherwise be managed manually (if at all). PriceWaterhouseCoopers estimates the cost for distributing, managing and filing a document is $20/process (this figure increases dramatically on corrective action, performance reviews, etc.) Assuming cost savings of $5/content item with automation, projected savings for Phil Smith would run $170,000+ since implementing the Compli Workforce and Compliance Management System.
"Compli has completely changed the way we manage our personnel and business processes. Required documentation is now electronically pushed out to employees, completed online and can be tracked centrally by HR or anyone on our exec team in real time. Managers and employees alike have embraced the Compli system for its ease of use and paperless automation, which has saved on compliance costs and overhead. Accountability, performance, and efficiency have improved greatly since its introduction."
– Michael Dayhoff - CFO
Ed Schmidt Automotive Group: Property & Casualty Insurance
Ed Schmidt Automotive Group has worked to gain more visibility and control over its compliance processes for Safety and Environmental risks across its 7 dealerships and facilities. The executive team at Ed Schmidt felt confident that it could reduce the frequency and severity of claims if it could better communicate the improved accountability and tracking of compliance activities for their insurer. The assigned Compliance Manager used Compli to regularly reinforce sales and F&I, and employment practices policies and procedures, trainings, electronic reminders and reports, and the reporting of accidents. Through this the dealership was able to reduce its insurance costs while improving overall compliance. Even more importantly, the Ed Schmidt organization significantly decreased claims in 2008 generating an estimated savings of over 50% in the last four years and over 10% on our Property & Casualty insurance.
"By utilizing Compli and increasing accountability internally for our sales and F&I as well as our employment practices program, we were able to significantly improve our compliance effort’s visibility and reduce our insurance costs. Anytime we can better protect our dealership and impact the bottom line it’s a clear win."
– Richard Cronin, CFO
Kendall Automotive Group: Orientation & Ongoing Employee Training
Kendall Automotive Group, a large Dealership with over 900 employees based in the Northwest, expanded its operations recently by acquiring four dealerships in Alaska. Upon acquisition all new employees were immediately introduced to the "Kendall Way" through Compli – they reviewed their new hire paperwork, signed their critical employment policies, and received mandatory training as part of their Kendal indoctrination. By leveraging the Compli system, Kendall estimates it saved over $30,000 for the roughly 300 Alaska employees it added when compared to their old acquisition training approach. On an ongoing basis, trainings like Sexual Harassment, OFAC, Red Flags, 8300, Sales and F&I, and other critical courses are automatically delivered as they become due on the anniversary date of hire for all employees – ensuring immediate compliance. Beyond the Alaska savings, Kendall estimates that utilizing Compli for its routine new hire orientation, along with regular ongoing training for all employees, saves them an additional $80,000 annually as compared to its previous paper-based, manual training approaches.
"Leveraging Compli for acquisitions is just one of many uses of the system. Going back to completing new hire paperwork and core trainings manually across all of our dealership locations would be extremely expensive, time consuming and ineffective. Compli automates the process and makes it simple, and it has become a key management tool for us in this very competitive environment."
– Dave Blewett, President
