It can be difficult to look honestly at culture, especially if there’s a clash between our idea of it, and the reality.

The question is: does your corporate compliance program address this clash?

How Do you Measure a Culture of Compliance?

As the person in charge of compliance, you’re also part of your organization’s culture. So how do you take a truly objective look at it? The best answer is: “you don’t.”

 If you’re looking for an honest assessment of your company’s culture of compliance, your best bet is to ask an outsider. Having a trusted outsider audit, review, and share their findings is the best way to really assess your culture and the effectiveness of your policies and code of conduct. The perspective of this fresh, unbiased, expert set of eyes is not entrenched in your company’s cultural environment, which makes it incredibly valuable.

Be a Champion for Compliance Culture

Culture starts at the top. If the expected behavior is not visibly represented at every level of your organization, you won’t get your desired response from your workforce.

Instead, model the behavior you want to encourage from the top of your organization while enabling middle management to be the culture of compliance advocates for your workforce.
