Federal Labor Standards Act: Sets minimum wage, overtime pay, child labor, and record-keeping standards for full-time and part-time workers in the public and private sectors. The FLSA is also commonly referred to as the Wage and Hour Law.
Covers organizations that are full-time and part-time, and private and public. These organizations must be at least $500,000 in annual income, and engage in interstate commerce.
The FLSA, regardless of dollar volume, covers hospitals, long-term care institutions, schools for mentally or physically disabled or gifted children, preschools, elementary and secondary schools, higher education institutions, and federal, state, and local government agencies.
It also covers domestic service workers under special circumstances.
