Ultimately what I found to be more difficult than anything was managing the myriad of state regulations as well as company policy and procedure. Doing so effectively in a high turnover industry where English was often a second language for a majority of my staff, just overwhelmed me at times. I could handle the late night calls when one of our beloved residents passed away and the follow up call to a family…but when the State DHS Inspector called I started to panic.
Not because we didn’t have systems in place, and not because I thought we’d see a number of sanctions or fines, but because I couldn’t easily deliver compliance reporting that would expedite the inspection process. Did I have all the staff training up-to-date? Nursing charts all in order and signed? Care plans current and signed? All special food requests properly documented for the chef and his staff? Water temps tested? The list went on and on.
This experience led me to embrace this industry here at Complí. Our solutions allow senior living providers the opportunity to manage compliance in one place and produce the reporting required to demonstrate focus on the right initiatives. I see this as our chance to help those that dedicate their lives to the enrichment of our nation’s aging population. Ultimately, I couldn’t figure out the right balance to continue on a career path in senior living. Now, I have the chance to support these true heroes that face daunting jobs on daily basis.
