Onboarding Is More Critical to Your Success Than You Think (Stat of the Week)
However much time and energy you spend helping new hires get acquainted with the job, you could probably be doing more. That’s the takeaway from several recent studies about retaining and engaging skilled employees. According to a recent meta-analysis published in the Harvard Business Review:
“[N]ew research shows that spending as much as a year helping new employees get up to speed in the workplace is necessary to capitalize on the skills, knowledge, and excitement they bring to the organization. What’s more, companies with successful onboarding programs are not just more likely to retain their new hires but even report measurable profit growth.”
And a 2009 Aberdeen Group study, which surveyed senior HR and recruiting executives, tells the same story—take a look at this week’s statistic:
